Who we are
Positive Attitude and Positive Action camps are youth run leadership camps designed to teach junior high and high school students leadership and communication skills with the hopes that they can return to their schools and communities and implement programs that have a positive impact on their lives and the lives of the community at large.
PA camp started in 1983 by a Slidell High School guidance counselor who saw a need to train youth in how to be peer leaders. What started with a group of parents around a kitchen table has created over 35 years of youth leadership development in our community.
What we do at PA Camp
Campers are separated into small groups led by highly trained high school facilitators called Interns
Interns then instruct the campers to participate in many challenging and thought provoking activities. Covering topics such as leadership, drugs and alcohol, stress, peer pressure and much more
An average of 2 workshops per day - presented by inspiring St. Tammany Parish locals
Previous workshop presenters: John Arsenaux (Families Helping Families), Ashlee Stokes (Community Leader), Joey Roberts (Exec. Director of YMCA), and many more
Camp wide activities (dances, comedy night, water sports, etc.)
And much more!
Serving all Junior High and High Schools in St. Tammany Parish and the State of Louisiana for over 35 years.
Important Announcement about
PA Camp 2020:
Dear Pride Family,
As summer approaches, we have been flooded with requests for information about out annual Positive Action/Positive Attitude leadership camps. The PRIDE Board of Directors has been following the Covid-19 pandemic closely and holding out hope that we could safely hold camp this summer. Unfortunately, we have come to the decision that it would not be in the best interest of our community, our youth, or our staff to host an in person camp during the summer of 2020.
We must follow guidance from Federal, State, and Local governments, as well as the information from health officials across the country. As many of you know, PA camp is dependent on close proximity team building activities and small group discussions in addition to attending large gathering seminars. Additionally, given that PA Camp is an overnight camp with communal restrooms and showers and bunk bed dormitory style housing, we cannot in good faith expose our leaders to this risk. While, this is certainly disappointing news for new and returning campers as well as our youth interns, we are confident that our traditional PA Camp 2021 will return next summer stronger than ever!
Lastly, we are excited to announce that we are working diligently to create a Virtual Leadership Series set to debut later this summer! We have some great ideas and will be announcing specifics soon! Keep checking our website and social media for more information. You may also email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to our mailing list and we can contact you directly with the most updated info.
As always, thank you for your interest in our organization and we look forward to providing you and your family with opportunities for years to come.
